John Mallia is Director of the Electronic Music Studio and a faculty member in Composition at New England Conservatory since 2005, with additional teaching roles at Vermont College of Fine Arts. His research explores spatial constructs in music through electroacoustic compositions and multimedia collaborations.
Education includes:
- PhD in Music Composition/Theory from Brandeis University
- MM in Composition from New England Conservatory
- BM in Composition from Syracuse University
Research focuses on:
- Real-time processing of acoustic instruments
- Multichannel loudspeaker arrays
- Thresholds between physical and auditory spaces
He has collaborated internationally with organizations including Musicacoustica (Beijing), Gaudeamus (Netherlands), and Zeppelin Festival (Barcelona).
