John Lee serves as an Assistant Teaching Professor in the Department of Music within Towson University's College of Fine Arts and Communication. A Washington D.C.-based composer and guitarist, he maintains an active international performance career while contributing to academic music education.
His educational foundation includes a B.F.A. in Jazz Performance from The New School University's Mannes Jazz and Contemporary Music Program, where he studied under Debashish Bhattacharya, Paul Bollenback, Dave Fiuczynski, George Garzone, Jamey Haddad, Johnny Hiland, Wayne Krantz, Kurt Rosenwinkel, and Gary Thomas.
Lee's artistic practice centers on Jazz Performance and Contemporary Music, extended through deep engagement with World Music traditions. His Guitar Performance expertise spans multiple genres, while his Composition work reflects cross-cultural influences developed through global collaborations.
Lee actively participates in community music initiatives through MusiCorps at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, where he applies musical pedagogy to service member rehabilitation. His discography includes four bandleader albums: Caveman Before the World, Totem, Somewhere Impossible to Find, and Nature Series, plus fifteen+ sideman recordings across international projects.
