John L. Sabo is a Professor in the Department of River-Coastal Science and Engineering at Tulane University's School of Science and Engineering. He directs Tulane's ByWater Institute, focusing on transdisciplinary research for water resource resilience in New Orleans, the Mississippi River Basin, and tropical regions. His research examines aquatic-terrestrial energy flow, groundwater effects on food webs, and basin-scale river management.
Research interests include developing quantitative methods connecting hydrology to freshwater fisheries and biodiversity conservation. Through ByWater, he facilitates interdisciplinary collaborations and translates research into practical solutions via partnerships with NGOs, government agencies, and private sector entities. Sabo is also founder/CEO of Future H2O-B, a benefit corporation providing science-based water solutions to global organizations.
