K. Jack Killgore is an Adjunct Professor at Tulane University's School of Science & Engineering and a Research Fisheries Biologist at the U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center (Vicksburg, MS). His career spans over four decades in federal environmental research, focusing on large river ecosystems, endangered species conservation, and aquatic habitat restoration. He leads an interdisciplinary team studying fishery resources, invasive species dynamics, and ecosystem restoration in the Mississippi River basin.
Education includes a B.A. from the University of Arkansas (1975), M.S. from Sam Houston State University (1980), and Ph.D. from the University of Mississippi (1995). His work has supported federal environmental compliance (e.g., National Environmental Policy Act) and produced over 100 peer-reviewed publications and technical reports.
Research interests emphasize habitat assessment of large river fishes, conservation of endangered species (e.g., Pallid Sturgeon), invasive species management (e.g., Asian Carp), and environmental impact analysis of water resource projects. His team integrates ichthyology, malacology, and watershed assessment techniques to address ecological challenges in navigable rivers.
Notable projects include developing protocols for ecosystem restoration under the Water Resources Development Act, studying fish passage through water control structures, and creating conservation plans for imperiled species like the Interior Least Tern. His work bridges applied science and engineering through Tulane's river science courses.
