John Johnston is a Professor in Art Education as Critical Tactics, holding a PhD from the University of Sunderland. His work focuses on the intersection of artistic thinking and conflict transformation, advocating for issues-based arts education to counteract societal apathy and depoliticization.
Research interests: Conflict Transformation, Arts-Based Research, Issues-Based Education, and Social Engaged Practice. He has worked in conflict/post-conflict regions such as Northern Ireland, Bosnia and Herzegovina, South Africa, Rwanda, Israel-Palestine, and Lebanon, developing arts methodologies to empower marginalized communities.
