Dr. Richard Hargy is a Visiting Research Fellow in International Studies at Queen’s University Belfast, affiliated with the Centre for the Study of Ethnic Conflict. He holds a PhD and MA from Queen’s University Belfast. His research focuses on contemporary Irish history, US intervention in post-conflict societies, and the impact of external influence on ethnic conflicts. He currently teaches on the MA 'Global Concepts and Practice of Conflict Transformation and Social Justice' module.
Externally, Hargy serves as Co-Convenor of the Political Studies Association of Ireland’s Peace and Conflict Group and chairs the Irish Association of American Studies ECR Caucus. He contributed to Harvard Professor Melani Cammett’s book project on post-conflict social relations, focusing on Northern Ireland, Bosnia-Herzegovina, and Lebanon.
Hargy has published articles on US diplomatic strategies in Northern Ireland and contemporary US political dynamics. Upcoming projects include a symposium on third-party intervention in post-conflict societies (November 2024). He frequently contributes to The Conversation, analyzing Trump’s presidency, US foreign policy, and global political trends.
