John Howe is Professor at Melbourne Law School, University of Melbourne, specializing in labour market regulation and social procurement. His research examines state-based regulation, corporate governance, and employment standards enforcement across Australia and the Asia-Pacific. He previously served as Director of the Melbourne School of Government (2017-2023) and Deputy Dean of Law (2013-2016).
His publications focus on regulatory design, labour dispute resolution, and modern slavery legislation, frequently analyzing court impacts on labor compliance and post-pandemic work structures. Recent work explores digital regulation and collective bargaining frameworks in Southeast Asia.
Howe teaches Principles of Employment Law and Enforcing Work Law in the Melbourne Law Masters program. He maintains memberships with the Labour Law Research Network and edits for the Australian Journal of Labour Law.
