Professor John Horton is a leading academic in the Faculty of Health, Education & Society at the University of Northampton. He serves as Chair of the University’s Research Ethics Committee and contributes to undergraduate Human Geography and postgraduate/Professional Doctorate modules.

Research interests include:
- Childhood and Youth Geographies: Exploring social-material exclusions, playful practices, and policies in the UK.
- Austerity Politics: Analyzing impacts on services for children and families. Sustainable Urbanism: Investigating youth participation in urban developments.
- Popular Culture: Studying children’s engagement with TV, music, and toys.
His recent articles span topics like the Energy-Water-Food Nexus, urban regeneration, and reflexivity in fieldwork, reflecting interdisciplinary collaborations across Europe and Brazil. He has supervised 10 PhD students to completion and mentors emerging researchers globally. His work aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goals related to poverty reduction, sustainability, and inclusive urban development.
