John Hepler, PhD, is a Full Professor in the Department of Pharmacology and Chemical Biology at Emory University School of Medicine. He holds academic appointments since 1996, including tenure since 2003 and promotion to Full Professor in 2010. His research focuses on RGS proteins and their roles in synaptic signaling, learning, memory, and kidney disease. He has led the Hepler Lab, investigating G protein signaling pathways and their implications in neurodegenerative diseases and tissue repair.
Education: B.A. Chemistry (UNC-Chapel Hill, 1981), Ph.D. Neurobiology (UNC-Chapel Hill, 1988). Postdoctoral training under Drs. T. Kendall Harden and Alfred G. Gilman. Professional roles include editorial positions at Molecular Pharmacology and service on NIH review panels.
Scientific contributions include over 119 publications, with recent work on RGS14's role in hippocampal plasticity and kidney phosphate regulation. Awards include AAAS Fellowship (2014) and Excellence in Teaching (2016). Leadership roles include directing Emory's Neuroscience Graduate Program.
