John "Jake" Dialesandro is a Lecturer in the Department of Environmental Studies and Sciences at Santa Clara University's College of Arts and Sciences. His work integrates remote sensing, geospatial technology, and climatology to address urban climate impacts and environmental justice issues.
- Ph.D. in Geography (Urban Climatology, Remote Sensing) from University of California, Davis (2021)
- Postdoctoral Research Fellow at UCLA's Luskin Center for Innovation
- Geospatial Research Analyst at USDA Southwest Climate Hub (Las Cruces, NM)
- Science Advisor for NASA DEVELOP program at Ames Research Center
His research focuses on urban thermal environments, shade inequity, and climate change impacts on dryland regions. He examines how urban development and anthropogenic climate change affect water resources and local climates, combining statistical analysis with geospatial methodologies. Publications highlight thermal inequity in arid cities, climate adaptation strategies for agriculture, and policy approaches to urban heat mitigation.
He teaches courses in GIS (ENVS 116), Environmental Statistics (ENVS 110), Remote Sensing (ENVS 197), and contributes to environmental justice discussions through the Capstone Seminar (ENVS 101) and My Environment (ENVS 5). His work bridges academic research with applied science through collaborations with NASA, USDA, and UCLA. Recent publications emphasize hyper-local land systems, municipal heat planning, and demographic dimensions of urban heat islands.
