John Devlin

John Devlin is a Professor at Northeastern University's Bouvé College of Health Sciences, with a joint appointment as a Critical Care Pharmacist and Associate Scientist in the Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. He is also an Instructor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School and co-directs the dissemination core of NIDUS alongside its annual research bootcamp.

His research spans Intensive Care Medicine, focusing on delirium pathophysiology, sedation strategies, and sleep disturbances in ICU populations. He has pioneered studies on pharmacological interventions for agitation and delirium, with a particular emphasis on opioid-related risks. His work bridges clinical practice and pharmacoepidemiology, as evidenced by over 200 peer-reviewed publications.

His research program, supported by $5 million in federal and industry funding, includes collaborations with Tufts Medical Center’s Psychiatry Department and the Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine.

He serves on the editorial boards of Critical Care Medicine and Pharmacotherapy, and contributes to national task forces like the ATS’s ICU Sleep Research Task Force.
