Mojdeh S. Heavner is an Associate Professor and critical care pharmacist at the University of Maryland School of Pharmacy (UMSOP), serving as the Assistant Dean for Experiential Learning and Residency Program Coordinator. She holds dual roles as Vice Chair for Clinical Services at UMSOP and a clinical pharmacy specialist in the medical ICU at the University of Maryland Medical Center. Her academic leadership includes roles such as Past-Chair of the American College of Clinical Pharmacy (ACCP) Critical Care Practice & Research Network and Secretary-Treasurer of the Society of Critical Care Medicine (SCCM) Clinical Pharmacy & Pharmacology Section.
Dr. Heavner earned a Bachelor of Science in Physiology and Neurobiology from the University of Maryland, College Park, and a Doctor of Pharmacy from UMSOP. She completed pharmacy residencies at Yale New Haven Hospital and became board certified in pharmacotherapy (2009) and critical care (2015). Her career spans clinical practice, residency program leadership, and academic roles focused on advancing pharmacist-driven care in critical care settings.
Her research emphasizes improving outcomes through ICU care standardization, with a focus on delirium, analgesia/sedation, sleep promotion, and pharmacist impact on patient outcomes. She has led studies on sleep disruption interventions, medication administration timing, and ICU staffing models. Over 150 peer-reviewed publications and book chapters reflect her expertise in critical care pharmacotherapy and clinical practice innovation.
Dr. Heavner’s honors include multiple SCCM Presidential Citations (2018–2024), FCCP/FCCM Fellowships, and awards for preceptorship and clinical practice excellence. Her grants include leadership in studies like the OPTIM initiative assessing pharmacist-to-patient ratios in ICUs. She is a vocal advocate for gender equity in pharmacy and interprofessional education in critical care.
Her academic service includes SCCM’s Education Committee and ACCP’s Critical Care Network, emphasizing translational research and educational initiatives. She directs UMSOP’s pharmacotherapy residency program and oversees experiential learning curricula, shaping future clinical pharmacists’ training and competency development.
