John De-Hayes is a Lecturer at Staffordshire University within the Health, Education, Policing and Sciences school. With over 25 years of policing experience, he transitioned to academia in 2018 after retiring from West Midlands Police as an Inspector. His career included roles in criminal investigations, public order, and tactical training. He holds a Master of Arts in Education (Staffordshire University), Postgraduate Certificates in Higher Education (University of Derby) and Policing & Investigations (University of Essex), and a Diploma in Education & Training (University of Essex).
Research interests focus on policing practices such as public disorder management, neurodiversity among police trainees, and educational methodologies in policing training. His MA research explored neurodiversity's impact on student police officers. Professional memberships include the HE Academy and Society of Education and Training.
Teaching contributions include co-authoring the DHEP policing programme and instructing on PCDA courses. His career spans operational policing roles, including deployments to major events like the London Olympics 2012 and NATO Summit 2014, alongside leadership in tactical training centers.
