John Dalton serves as the Associate Dean of Student Affairs and Lecturer in Law at Stanford Law School. He oversees the Registrar’s Office and Office of Student Affairs (OSA), managing student support programs and advising on academic, personal, and health challenges. Previously, he directed Stanford Law School's Academic Success program, focusing on bar preparation and academic support.

Prior to academia, Dalton practiced law at the Equal Justice Initiative (EJI) as a capital litigator and worked on racial justice and education projects. Earlier roles included corporate law at Davis Polk & Wardwell and a judicial clerkship with Judge Pamela Ann Rymer of the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals.
His professional trajectory combines legal practice, judicial experience, and educational leadership, with a focus on equity in legal education and student welfare.
