John Corso-Esquivel is an Associate Professor of Art at Davidson College. His research focuses on affect theory, feminist art practices, and critiques of pharmaceutical culture in contemporary art. Educated at Cornell University (Ph.D., M.A.), Tufts University (M.F.A., M.A.), and Williams College (B.A. honors), he bridges studio art foundations with critical theory and pedagogy. His work interrogates visual culture’s role in equity, social justice, and biopolitics.

His first book, Feminist Subjectivities in Fiber Art and Craft: Shadows of Affect (2019), analyzes feminist fiber art’s emotional resonance. His upcoming book Pharmaceuticals and Pill Culture in Contemporary Art: Pharmaesthetics (2026) examines art critiquing pharmaceutical control over bodies. He will co-curate a companion exhibition with Lia Newman in 2026.
Teaching methods include active lectures, problem-based learning, and Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) frameworks. He previously taught at Oakland University and Cranbrook Academy of Art.
