John Coleman is an Adjunct Professor at Carleton University’s School of Public Policy and Administration. He retired in 2011 from the National Research Council of Canada (NRC), where he served as Vice-President of Engineering and Director General of Surface Transportation Technology. Coleman holds multiple roles in transportation governance: he is a member of the National Board of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport in North America, Treasurer of its corporate body, chairs its Education Committee, and serves on Transport Canada’s Railway Research Advisory Board.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Carleton University), MBA (University of Western Ontario).
His research focuses on Canadian transportation policy, railway safety regulation, and logistics systems. Notable contributions include co-authoring a 2019 book on Canadian transportation policy with Bruce Doern and Barry Prentice, and submitting research reports to the Canada Transportation Act Review Panel (2015) and Railway Safety Act Review Panel (2017). He teaches a master’s-level course on Canadian Transportation Policy annually at Carleton.
