Kevin Coleman is an Associate Professor in the Department of History at the University of Toronto, with cross-appointments in Latin American Studies. His research and teaching focus on the intersections of capitalism, photography, and Catholicism in 20th-century Latin America, alongside broader explorations of citizenship and historical memory.

Coleman's work has been recognized by the American Historical Association and the Canadian Historical Association. A documentary filmmaker, he directed Stolen Photo (2024) and authored A Camera in the Garden of Eden: The Self-Forging of a Banana Republic (2016), which was translated into Spanish (2019). His co-edited works include Capitalism and the Camera (2021) and Coups d’état in Cold War Latin America, 1964-1982 (2024). His research has been funded by the American Council of Learned Societies, the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, Fulbright-Hayes, and the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council.

Coleman's publications span leading journals such as the Hispanic American Historical Review, Radical History Review, and Photography and Culture. His work interrogates how physical violence manifests in archives and how photography intersects with capitalist exploitation and liberation. He is actively engaged in community initiatives related to urban ecology and native plant conservation in Toronto.
