Ian Erickson-Kery is a Lecturer in the Department of Modern Languages and Literatures at Santa Clara University (SCU), affiliated with the College of Arts and Sciences. He specializes in Latin American Cultural Studies, Environmental Humanities, and Film/Visual Culture, with a focus on urban design, embodiment theories, and carbon infrastructure in 20th-century Latin America. His PhD dissertation, to be defended in 2024 at Duke University, explores contested urban aesthetics in Mexico and Brazil. Erickson-Kery has published peer-reviewed work on indigenous video documentation and pandemic cultural theory, supported by Fulbright and Mellon grants.
Education: PhD Candidate in Cultural Studies (Duke University). Prior teaching includes Duke University's Spanish/Portuguese programs and Mexican cultural history courses.
Research interests bridge architecture, environmental studies, and race theory. He develops immersive digital humanities pedagogy through Bass and Mellon fellowships, emphasizing lab-based and experimental learning modalities. Current projects include a book manuscript expanding his dissertation findings.
