Ata M. Khan is a Professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Carleton University, based at the Minto Centre for Advanced Studies in Engineering. He teaches undergraduate and graduate courses including Engineering Economics, Transportation Engineering, Urban Planning, and specialized topics in traffic management and infrastructure resilience.
His educational background includes a B.Eng. and M.Eng. from the American University of Beirut and a Ph.D. from the University of Waterloo. He is a licensed Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with distinguished fellowships from the Canadian Society for Civil Engineering (F.CSCE) and the Institute of Transportation Engineers (F.ITE).
Prof. Khan's research centers on transportation systems evolution, with emphasis on policy challenges for automated vehicles, infrastructure investment risk modeling, network resilience, and sustainable electrification. His work bridges theoretical frameworks like Bayesian decision analysis with real-world applications in urban planning, traffic safety, and multimodal supply chains.
