John C. McDermott is a Full Professor in the Department of Biology at York University's Faculty of Science, holding the McLaughlin Research Chair. His research focuses on cellular differentiation mechanisms, particularly in muscle cells and neurons, emphasizing the role of transcription factors like MEF2 in gene expression and disease contexts such as cardiac hypertrophy and muscle regeneration. He investigates signaling pathways (e.g., p38 MAP kinase) and growth factor interactions influencing myogenesis.
