John Board is an Associate Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering and Computer Science at Duke University's Pratt School of Engineering, holding additional responsibilities as Associate Chief Information Officer. A Rhodes Scholar and Duke alumnus (B.S.E. 1981, M.S. 1982), he earned his D.Phil from Oxford University (1986). His research develops high-performance computing architectures for scientific simulations.
Research focuses on parallel processing, cluster computing, and novel computer architectures for applications ranging from molecular dynamics to cardiac electrophysiology modeling. Recent work includes software vulnerability classification methodologies, while earlier publications established foundational work on multipole algorithms for particle simulations.
Honors include:
- Klein Family Distinguished Teaching Award (2008)
- Distinguished Young Alumnus recognition (2008)
- Multiple teaching excellence awards
He teaches core computer engineering courses including Digital Systems and Computer Architecture. His educational innovations include leading Duke's undergraduate ECE curriculum redesign to integrate sensing and information processing themes.
