Dr John Bedson is a Senior Lecturer in General Practice at Keele University’s School of Medicine, working part-time as a clinical academic GP. He graduated in Medicine from the University of Manchester (1985), qualified as a GP in 1991, and earned his MD from Keele in 2006. His roles include supervising a PhD studentship and teaching Evidence-Based Medicine (EBM) to general practice registrars and local GPs.
Research Interests:
- Primary care management of chronic knee pain and osteoarthritis
- Analgesic and opioid use in chronic musculoskeletal pain
- Smartphone device applications for predicting long-term health outcomes in chronic pain patients
- Epidemiology of ischaemic heart disease prevention via aspirin use.
Awards:
- BMA Doris Hillier Award (2006) for arthritis research on knee pain consultation factors.
Grants & Collaborations:
Recipient of NIHR School for Primary Care Research funding (2010) for analgesic use research, and part of the Keele GP Research Partnership through Mayfield Surgery. Affiliated with Keele University’s Clinical Education Centre.
