Professor Peter Croft is a Professor of Primary Care Epidemiology at Keele University's School of Medicine since 1994. Previously a General Practitioner in Newcastle-under-Lyme, he specialized in epidemiology under mentors like David Coggon and Alan Silman. His research focuses on chronic pain mechanisms, musculoskeletal conditions (e.g., low back pain, osteoarthritis), and improving primary care approaches through multidisciplinary collaboration. He chairs the NIHR In-Practice Fellowship Committee and leads Arthritis Research UK’s complementary therapy priorities working group.
Research Interests: Chronic pain epidemiology, musculoskeletal disorders, primary care strategies for chronic conditions, and translational research linking clinical and population data. He emphasizes studying pain trajectories, treatment outcomes, and patient-doctor communication dynamics using innovative methods like video-stimulated recall.
Awards: NIHR Senior Investigator (2013–present).
Advising & Grants: Leads Keele's multidisciplinary musculoskeletal research teams and collaborates with NHS primary/secondary care services. His work integrates clinical and public health perspectives to address productivity loss and patient care gaps in chronic pain management.
