John Ayer is an Adjunct Professor at Laurentian University (LU) and serves as Associate Director of the Mineral Exploration Research Centre (MERC) since February 2013. He holds a BSc and MSc from Carleton University and a PhD from the University of Ottawa. With 28 years of experience at the Ontario Geological Survey (OGS), he specialized in mapping Precambrian greenstone belts in the Wabigoon and Abitibi Subprovinces. He transitioned to the exploration industry for 10 years and led OGS’s Precambrian mapping group, Targeted Geoscience Initiative 3, and the Greenstone Architecture project under Discover Abitibi. His research focuses on geochronology, stratigraphy, and lithogeochemistry with an emphasis on metal deposition mechanisms in ancient terranes.
