Dr. Jeff Harris serves as the Metal Earth Data Analytics Lead at the Mineral Exploration Research Centre (MERC) affiliated with Laurentian University's Harquail School. His work focuses on integrating geoscience data to create Digital Integration Models (DIMs) for mineral potential assessment in greenstone belts across Ontario and Quebec. Previously, he worked at the Geological Survey of Canada as a research scientist, specializing in data analytics, remote predictive mapping (RPM), and mineral potential mapping (MPM). He has authored over 150 scientific papers and GSC Open-file Reports.
Research interests include geoscience data analysis, mineral exploration methodologies, and the application of predictive modeling to identify mineralization patterns in greenstone belts. His contributions aim to address why certain belts are mineralized while others remain barren, advancing exploration strategies.
MERC's research activities include field courses and modular training programs, such as the upcoming Precambrian Geology of the Abitibi Belt field course (August 2025) and a structure/tectonics-focused course (September 2025). Dr. Harris collaborates with academic and industry partners to enhance mineral resource discovery through interdisciplinary approaches.
