John A. Cline is a Professor in the Department of Plant Agriculture at the University of Guelph's Ontario Agricultural College. His research focuses on enhancing fruit tree productivity, sustainability, and quality through studies on rootstock performance, plant bioregulators, and sustainable orchard practices.

Dr. Cline’s work addresses challenges in Ontario’s apple and tender fruit industries. Key projects include evaluating new cultivars, reducing pesticide reliance, and improving orchard management practices.
Advising & Grants:
Collaborates with national and international teams through multi-site rootstock trials (NC-140 projects). His research has been supported by grants focused on sustainable agriculture and fruit production efficiency.
Labs & Teams:
Based at the Edmund C. Bovey Building and the Ontario Crops Research Centre – Simcoe. Leads teams studying apple replant disease, mechanical thinning, and plant bioregulator applications.
