Johannes Eber, a Postdoctoral Research Assistant at the University of Zurich's Department of Classical Archaeology since September 2023, specializes in the material and visual culture of Italian/Roman antiquity, Pompeian archaeology, religious archaeology (house and death cult), and the archaeology of the senses. He coordinates the Digital Visualisation Lab and serves as the webmaster for the Institute's website.
His research focuses on domestic ritual practices in Pompeii, particularly incense burners and lighting artifacts, integrating sensorial experiences and digital humanities. He has co-curated major exhibitions like "New Light from Pompeii" (Munich, 2022–2023) and "Nuova Luce da Pompei a Roma" (Rome, 2023), emphasizing innovative presentation methods such as virtual reality.

Eber's recent publications analyze Egyptian incense burners, domestic mortuary rites, and light in Roman interiors.
