Dominique Bauer is a Visiting Researcher at the Department of Islamic Studies, University of Vienna, and Lecturer of Islam in an International Context and Gender Studies at the University College of Teacher Education of Christian Churches Vienna/Krems since September 2021. Her academic background spans Near Eastern Studies, International Development, and Arabic language training at the University of Vienna.

Bauer's research critically examines the institutionalization of Gender Studies and Islamic Studies, with emphasis on gender equality in academic human resources. Her work engages deeply with Orientalism and postcolonial theory while analyzing Muslim communities across Europe and the Indian Subcontinent, complemented by specialized focus on Urdu language and literary traditions.

- Marietta Blau Scholarship (2022) from the Austrian Agency for International Cooperation for her project analyzing gender perspectives in German-speaking Islamic Studies, enabling her visiting fellowship at the University of Zurich
