Dr. Johanna Peetz is a Professor in the Department of Psychology at Carleton University, affiliated with the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences. She earned her PhD from Wilfrid Laurier University and has held appointments at the University of Cologne and Carleton since 2011. Her research focuses on time perception, financial decision-making, interpersonal relationships, and goal motivation. Her lab, LifeTools, explores skills to help individuals and couples navigate life challenges, particularly financial stress and relationship dynamics.

Dr. Peetz’s research interests include how finances influence relationship quality, the role of financial communication in couples, and strategies to enhance goal pursuit. Key projects, such as examining joint financial accounts’ impact on communication and financial stress, are supported by grants like SSHRC #430-2023-00417. She actively supervises graduate and undergraduate students, mentoring over 30 advisees since 2011.
Her work bridges psychology and economics, with publications in journals like Journal of Personal and Social Relationships and Personality and Social Psychology Bulletin. She also contributes to public discourse through blogs and podcasts, such as Psychology Today and Rational Reminder.
Dr. Peetz leads the LifeTools Lab, fostering collaborative research on financial self-control strategies and relational dynamics. Current projects include a postdoctoral position focused on finances in relationships, emphasizing longitudinal dyadic data analysis.
