Johanna H. Stuckey is a Professor Emerita in the School of Gender, Sexuality and Women's Studies at York University. Her research focuses on ancient Near Eastern goddesses, feminist theology, and the intersection of gender and religion. She holds a PhD in English from Yale University and MA/BA degrees from the University of Toronto.
Key achievements include co-authoring the Handbook of Gods and Goddesses of the Ancient Near East, which won the 2022 PROSE Award, and her sustained contributions to the Feminist Issues annual volume through yearly updates of the chapter 'Women and Religion'. At 88 years old, she continues researching ancient goddesses and their relationships with dying gods.
Her work bridges literary analysis, historical scholarship, and feminist critique, with a particular emphasis on reconstructing marginalized religious narratives.
