Charlie Trimm serves as Associate Professor and Chair of Old Testament at Biola University’s Talbot School of Theology. His expertise spans Old Testament theology, ancient Near Eastern warfare, and the works of J.R.R. Tolkien. He holds a Ph.D. from Wheaton College (2012) and has authored/co-authored books like Fighting for the King and the Gods (2017) and Understanding Old Testament Theology (2020). His research bridges biblical ethics, historical contexts, and modern theological challenges.
Education: Ph.D., Wheaton College (2012); M.Div. and M.A., Northwest Baptist Seminary; B.S., Western Washington University. Active in organizations like the Society of Biblical Literature (2007–present) and the Tolkien Society (2017–present).
Research focuses on Old Testament ethics, warfare in ancient contexts, and applying biblical themes to contemporary issues like diversity in theological education. He directs Every Voice: A Center for Kingdom Diversity in Christian Theological Education.
Recent publications explore topics such as battlefield ethics, Tolkien’s mythological theology, and genocide studies. His teaching includes courses like Divine Violence in the Old Testament and OT Ethics and Theology.
