Kirk specializes in wisdom literature, particularly Proverbs and Ecclesiastes, exploring their interplay with covenant theology and legal traditions. His first book, Agur's Wisdom and the Coherence of Proverbs 30 (SBL, 2024), demonstrates theological coherence in Proverbs 30. Current projects analyze wisdom-law dynamics in the Hebrew Bible and philology-theology intersections in Ecclesiastes.
His publications reveal a focus on textual anomalies, linguistic patterns, and theological implications in Old Testament poetry and narrative. Kirk advocates for the Old Testament as a vital encounter with the Triune God, informed by his cross-cultural teaching experience and editorial collaborations like the 2025 Hebrew Bible and Ancient Israel volume on humor in wisdom texts.
Kirk's scholarly contributions include peer-reviewed articles in Vetus Testamentum and Catholic Bible Quarterly, addressing topics such as inebriated speech in Judges, textual variations in Proverbs, and syntactic subversion in Ezekiel and Jonah.
He is actively involved in academic societies like the Society of Biblical Literature and Institute for Biblical Research, with a commitment to equipping pastors through theological education. Kirk resides in Hoover, Alabama, with his wife Meghan and three daughters, worshipping at Christ the King Anglican Church (ACNA).
