Dr. Johanna Fitzgerald is a Senior Lecturer and Head of Department in Educational Psychology, Inclusive and Special Education at Mary Immaculate College. With a background spanning over eleven years in various educational settings, she specializes in designing and delivering teacher education programs focused on inclusive and special educational needs.
Her research focuses on three core domains: educational leadership, pedagogy, and teacher professional learning. These intersect to influence student learning outcomes for diverse learners, with particular emphasis on developing integrated approaches to inclusive education and understanding how SENCOs and school leaders can enhance their practice.
Dr. Fitzgerald currently supervises doctoral research on leadership in inclusive education, transition experiences of children with learning disabilities, and student voice in education. She established the MIC SENCO Forum, creating professional learning networks for special education coordinators in the mid-west region.
