Professor Johan Malm holds multiple academic appointments at Lund University including Professor of Clinical Chemistry (Malmö), Professor of Clinical Protein Science and Imaging, and Professor at EpiHealth: Epidemiology for Health. He serves as Assistant Head of the Department of Translational Medicine and is a Principal Investigator at LUCC: Lund University Cancer Centre.
His research focuses on proteomics applications in clinical medicine, with particular emphasis on:
- Cancer biomarker discovery and validation in melanoma
- Tissue-specific proteome dynamics and mapping
- Hormonal regulation of metabolic and immune functions
- Proteogenomic approaches to cancer heterogeneity
- Biobanking strategies for precision oncology
Recent publications demonstrate strong focus on translational cancer research with articles appearing in high-impact journals including Cancer, Cell, and Cancers. His work integrates proteomics, AI applications, and clinical data to advance cancer diagnostics and therapeutic strategies.
Currently leads three major research projects:
- Complementing clinical decision making of malignant melanoma patients (2024-2027)
- ReproUnion - Platform for Reproductive Health Innovation (2023-2026)
- Integrating AI and Spatial Proteomics for Melanoma (2026-2031)
