Joep Lindeman is a full professor of criminal procedure law at Utrecht University's Willem Pompe Institute for Criminal Law and Criminology. He holds leadership roles as a programme leader of the Montaigne Centre for the Rule of Law and Administration of Justice and chairs the Master's Examination Board. His research focuses on criminal procedure, judicial organization, and European criminal law, with a particular emphasis on pre-trial detention, legal professions, and administrative criminal law.
He previously worked at the Public Prosecutor's Office and obtained his PhD in 2017 on Dutch public prosecutors. Lindeman teaches criminal procedural law at both bachelor's and master's levels and has supervised numerous master's theses. His work also involves advising parliamentary committees on criminal procedure reforms and evaluating legal policies like the Temporary Anti-Terrorism Measures Act.
Key research interests include the intersection of criminal law and governance, security in open societies, and the modernization of legal frameworks. Lindeman's recent publications analyze public-private partnerships in policing, pressures on legal professions, and cross-border evidence admissibility in EU contexts.
