Joel Westheimer is a Full Professor in the Faculty of Education at the University of Ottawa, holding the University Research Chair in Democracy and Education. A Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada and the American Educational Research Association, he is a prominent education columnist for CBC Radio’s Ottawa Morning and author of multiple award-winning books, including What Kind of Citizen? and Pledging Allegiance. His research focuses on civic education, social justice, and the intersection of politics and schooling.

His media appearances include TEDxTalks, Good Morning America, and C-SPAN, where he discusses education policy, democracy, and social issues. Westheimer co-founded Democratic Dialogue, a research group advocating for critical democratic ideals in education.
