Joel Crawford is a Research Fellow (Postdoc) at Linköping University’s Department of Health, Medicine and Caring Sciences (HMV), within the Division of Society and Health (SH). He leads the digital alcohol intervention project TOPHAT5, focusing on personalized behavioral change strategies informed by ‘Stages of Change’ and ‘Drinking Motives’ theories. His work integrates quantitative and qualitative analyses of health interventions, emphasizing mediation effects and participant engagement.
Education includes a PhD in Health Psychology (University of Liverpool, 2018–2022), an MSc in Health Psychology (Aston University, 2015–2017), and an Assistant Fellowship in Higher Education (University of Liverpool, 2021). Prior roles include Senior Operational Researcher at the UK Office for National Statistics (2022–2023) and doctoral teaching roles at the University of Liverpool (2018–2022).
His research focuses on large-scale digital interventions for alcohol and smoking cessation, with a focus on individualized treatment effects and behavioral mediation mechanisms. Key projects include evaluating text messaging smoking cessation programs and mobile health interventions for youth lifestyle changes.
Joel’s work is affiliated with the Unit of Public Health (FH) and contributes to interdisciplinary public health research at Linköping University.
