She holds leadership roles including Head of the Division for Community Medicine, responsible for the 8th semester of the Medical Program's 'Approach and Public Health' theme, and supervises occupational therapy students. Her research focuses on healthcare encounters and lifestyle interventions, particularly using digital tools like SMS-based programs to promote smoking cessation, reduced alcohol consumption, and healthy behaviors among students and marginalized groups.
Her recent work includes developing an SMS-based smoking cessation program for 400,000 university students nationwide and co-designing digital well-being tools with young adults with intellectual disabilities. She collaborates with the Lifestyle Intervention Implementation Research Group (LiiR) led by Professor Preben Bendtsen, and has contributed to intersectoral initiatives like Generation Pep to improve children's physical activity and nutrition. Müssener emphasizes participatory design to ensure interventions meet users' needs, particularly for marginalized groups.
Her research outputs include studies on mHealth interventions for migrant mothers, mobile-based health behavior change in adolescents, and qualitative analyses of user experiences with health apps. She has been involved in funded projects by FORTE and collaborates with researchers like Pontus Henriksson and Preben Bendtsen. Current projects include a digital tool co-designed with young adults with intellectual disabilities to address health-related life skills and social integration, expected to launch in 2025.
