Joel Braun is an Associate Professor of Double Bass at the Butler School of Music, University of Texas at Austin. He holds a Master of Music and Bachelor of Music from The Juilliard School. As an orchestral musician, he has performed with prestigious orchestras such as the New York Philharmonic, Detroit Symphony Orchestra, and Israel Philharmonic. He currently serves as Assistant Principal Bass of the Eastern Music Festival Orchestra and has toured internationally, including a historic trip to North Korea with the New York Philharmonic in 2008.

Research/Teaching Focus: Braun specializes in double bass performance, chamber music collaboration, and pedagogy. He has presented master classes globally at institutions like the Universidad Nacional de Música (Perú), the Cleveland Institute of Music, and Interlochen Center for the Arts. His teaching roles include positions at Ball State University, The Juilliard School Pre-College Division, and New York City's Special Music School.
Performance Collaborations: He has performed with renowned artists such as violinist Nadja Salerno-Sonnenberg and pianist Awadagin Pratt. His orchestral engagements include collaborations with conductors like Kurt Masur and Riccardo Muti.
Labs/Ensembles: Active in the Eastern Music Festival Orchestra and affiliated with the Butler School of Music’s String & Harp teaching program.
