Daniel Merriman serves as an Adjunct Professor of Music at Vassar College since 2022, based in the Hudson Valley region of New York. He maintains an active career as a double bassist performing with the Hudson Valley Philharmonic, Reading Symphony Orchestra, and regularly with the New Jersey Festival Orchestra, Albany Symphony, Allentown Symphony, Lancaster Symphony, and Glens Falls Symphony.
His educational background includes:
- Bachelor of Music from the Hartt School at the University of Hartford
- Master of Music from SUNY Purchase
- Further studies at Rutgers University
Merriman's professional focus centers on orchestral performance and music education, demonstrated through his extensive engagements with regional ensembles and dedication to pedagogy. His summer performances span prestigious festivals including the Mostly Modern Festival at Skidmore University, Lake Placid Sinfonietta, and Phoenicia Festival of Voice.
As an educator, he has held faculty appointments at the New York Music School (Tenafly, NJ), Rutgers Extension Division (Mason Gross School for the Arts), and SUNY New Paltz, while maintaining a private teaching studio in the mid-Hudson Valley for double bass instruction.
