Joe Shimwell is a Senior Lecturer at Northumbria University with joint appointments in Mathematics, Physics and Electrical Engineering and Mechanical and Construction Engineering. He holds a PGCE and conducts research in STEM education interventions.
His research examines:
- Evaluation methodologies for STEM initiatives
- Early years engineering education resources
- Reducing stereotypes in science perceptions
- Diversity in computer science education
Publications demonstrate expertise in designing teacher-led interventions ('Scientist of the Week'), co-creating engineering resources for young children, and addressing unconscious bias in education.
