Joe Maiolo is Professor of International History at King's College London's Department of War Studies. His research examines arms races, intelligence, and the origins of major conflicts, particularly the Second World War, with ongoing projects on resource security and raw materials in 20th-century politics.
Education includes a Ph.D. from the London School of Economics and B.A./M.A. from the University of Toronto. Professional appointments include Senior Fellow at the Norwegian Institute for Defence Studies and Visiting Professor at the Norwegian Defence Intelligence School.
Maiolo edits the Journal of Strategic Studies and serves on the editorial board of Intelligence & National Security. His publications analyze naval diplomacy, arms control systems, and international power structures, emphasizing systemic historical analysis.
Awards include Fellowship in the Royal Historical Society (2002). He directs the MA in Intelligence and International Security and teaches courses on WWII and war in science fiction.
