Professor Joe Bogue is a distinguished academic at University College Cork, serving as a Professor in the Department of Food Business and Development within the Cork University Business School. He teaches across undergraduate, postgraduate, and executive education programs, specializing in food marketing and entrepreneurship. Professor Bogue is also the Co-Director of the MSc in Food Business and Innovation Programme and has served as an External Examiner at prestigious institutions including the University of Ulster, University of Edinburgh, and University of Newcastle-upon-Tyne.
Professor Bogue's educational background includes a PhD in market-oriented new product development from the University of Newcastle-upon-Tyne, an MSc in Food Science and Technology (specializing in Food Marketing and Entrepreneurship) from UCC, an MA in Teaching and Learning in Higher Education (focusing on Entrepreneurship Education) from UCC, and a BSc in Science from UCC.
His research expertise spans multiple critical areas in food business, with a particular focus on market-oriented new product development, strategic food marketing, and consumer behavior. Professor Bogue has made significant contributions to understanding functional foods, food choice patterns, consumer acceptance of novel products, dairy supply chain dynamics, and food entrepreneurship. His work bridges academic theory with practical applications in the food industry, emphasizing the importance of market orientation in developing successful food products and businesses.

Professor Bogue has demonstrated exceptional commitment to student development, having supervised 13 PhD students to completion, mentored 5 post-doctoral researchers, and guided over 50 research master's students. His research has been substantially funded by major organizations including the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine, the Higher Education Authority (HEA), Enterprise Ireland, and the European Union. Notably, he served as Co-PI on a successful Horizon 2020 grant worth €1.8 million focused on European Entrepreneurship. He is also the co-founder of the Dairy Evolution Next (DEX) Network, a collaborative platform funded by the Economic and Social Research Council and the Irish Research Council that facilitates knowledge exchange across the UK and Ireland.
Professor Bogue plays a significant leadership role in entrepreneurship initiatives at UCC, serving as Project Lead on HEA-funded projects integrating Sustainable Development Goals-driven entrepreneurship culture across Ireland. He has led UCC Entrepreneurship Summer Schools for secondary students since 2017 and serves as UCC co-lead for the Student Inc. Entrepreneurship Accelerator Programme, which involves a collaborative network of nine Irish higher education institutions.
