معرفی
Alan Dobson is a Professor and Chair of Environmental Microbiology in the School of Microbiology at University College Cork, Ireland. He holds a Ph.D. in Biochemistry from the National University of Ireland, Galway, and has been a leading figure in environmental microbiology for over three decades. His research focuses on microbial interactions in natural and engineered environments, emphasizing biotechnological applications such as biodegradation of plastics, anaerobic digestion, and mycotoxin mitigation.
Education: Ph.D. in Biochemistry (National University of Ireland, Galway). Professional roles include Director of the Environmental Research Institute at UCC (2005–2014). His work spans marine microbial ecology, industrial biotechnology, and food safety, with over 200 peer-reviewed publications and 28 graduated PhD students.
Research interests include marine biotechnology, microbial enzyme systems, anaerobic digestion optimization, and mycotoxin biosynthesis. Notable contributions include the discovery of enzymes degrading plastics like PET and DBP, and insights into fungal pathogenesis under climate change.
His publications highlight advancements in biocatalyst development, microbial community dynamics, and sustainable bioprocessing. Awards include the Royal Irish Academy Medal (1999) and election as a Royal Irish Academy member (2013). His lab actively collaborates on projects like DairyWater, addressing dairy industry sustainability through microbial bioremediation.
Scientific Awards: Fulbright Scholarship (1992), Royal Irish Academy Medal (1999), D.Sc. (2005), Royal Irish Academy Fellowship (2013).
Advising: Supervised 28 PhD students, contributing to global microbial research capacity. Current research emphasizes marine-derived enzymes for biodegradation and biogas production optimization.
