معرفی
Joe B. Blumer is a Professor in the Department of Pharmacology & Immunology at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) College of Medicine. He holds dual appointments in Cell & Molecular Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics, as well as Neurosciences. His research focuses on G-protein signaling mechanisms, particularly the roles of Activator of G Protein Signaling (AGS) proteins in chemokine signaling and cellular responses. He is also a prominent medical educator, leading the Molecules, Metabolism and Therapeutics (MMT) theme in MUSC’s FLEX pre-clerkship curriculum since 2016. Blumer has received numerous teaching awards, including multiple Golden Apple awards and Teacher of the Year distinctions, and is recognized as a Master Teacher in the MUSC Academy of Medical Educators.
Blumer earned his Ph.D. from Emory University and completed a postdoctoral fellowship at LSU Health Sciences Center. His research has been continuously funded by NIH grants, focusing on AGS proteins’ roles in metabolic regulation, kidney disease, and immune cell function. He serves as Associate Editor for the Journal of Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics and on the editorial board of the Journal of Biological Chemistry.
His most recent work spans DEI initiatives in medical education and the molecular underpinnings of GPCR signaling. Blumer’s lab uses mouse models and cell-based assays to study AGS3/4 function in vivo, with implications for understanding cancer progression, kidney regeneration, and inflammatory responses.
