Jody Olsen is a Visiting Professor at the University of Maryland-Baltimore School of Social Work, Director of the campus Student Center for Global Issues, and Co-Chair of the Global Health Interprofessional Council. She specializes in international social work and has strengthened international opportunities for students and faculty through initiatives like inter-professional summer health research projects in Malawi. Her affiliations include the Council on Global Learning, Research and Practice of CSWE, and boards for Kalamazoo College, NAFSA, and Health Volunteers Overseas (HVO).
Before academia, Olsen held leadership roles in the U.S. Peace Corps, including Acting Director and Deputy Director (2001–2009), and served as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Tunisia. She also worked at AED, CIES (Fulbright Senior Scholar Program), and YFU. She holds a BS in Sociology, MSW and PhD from the University of Maryland, and an honorary doctorate from Michigan Technological University.
Her research interests focus on global health, international social work education, and interprofessional collaboration. She has traveled to over 90 countries and delivered over 1,000 speeches worldwide.
