Jody Mason is a Professor in the Department of English Language and Literature at Carleton University, cross-appointed to the School of Canadian Studies. His research focuses on literatures and cultures in Canada, twentieth- and twenty-first-century anglophone literatures, sociology of literature, print culture studies, and settler-colonial studies. He holds degrees from the University of Western Ontario (B.A. Honours, M.A.) and the University of Toronto (Ph.D.).
His recent work examines how books and literacy have shaped settler colonialism in Canada, including analyses of literacy programs like the Frontier College and Canada’s postwar book diplomacy. Key publications include Home Feelings: Liberal Citizenship and the Canadian Reading Camp Movement (2019) and articles in Book History, Canadian Literature, and others.
Mason has received numerous awards, including the Gabrielle Roy Prize (2020), SSHRC grants, and FASS Research Awards. His research often intersects with Indigenous critiques of settler narratives and international development policies. He actively supervises doctoral students in his research areas, emphasizing interdisciplinary and decolonial approaches.
