Her cross appointments include The Feminist Institute of Social Transformation and the Institute for Comparative Studies in Literature, Art and Culture. She holds a B.A. (Queen’s University), M.A., and Ph.D. (Cornell University).
Medd’s research bridges modernist studies, sexuality studies (queer theory), feminist/gender studies, and queer literature. She authored Lesbian Scandal and the Culture of Modernism (2012) and edited The Cambridge Companion to Lesbian Literature (2015). Her work explores queer modernism, literary patronage, and the intersections of queer theory with contemporary issues like censorship and library bans.
Her articles span analyses of queer modernist temporality, E.M. Forster’s relationships, and Radclyffe Hall’s scandals. Recent work experiments with academic form, influenced by her teaching in creative nonfiction and healing-centred education.
Awarded the FASS Research Excellence Award (2019) and FASS Teaching Award (2009), she is recognized for mentoring and innovative pedagogy. Her courses include Queer Theory, Queer Historical Fiction, and Virginia Woolf Studies.
Medd’s grants include SSHRC (2003-07) and Canada Council for the Arts (2007-08). She actively contributes to interdisciplinary collaborations, advocating for queer-inclusive education and cultural critique.
