Dr. Hannah Roche is a Senior Lecturer in English and Related Literature at the University of York. Formerly a Lecturer in Twentieth-Century Literature and Culture, she specializes in queer literature, transatlantic modernism, and cultural history. Her research explores lesbian modernist authors like Gertrude Stein and Radclyffe Hall, emphasizing their influence on contemporary queer culture. She holds a PhD from the University of Leeds (2016) and an AHRC International Placement Fellowship at the Harry Ransom Center (2014).
Her monograph *The Outside Thing: Modernist Lesbian Romance* (2019) was honored as a Choice Outstanding Academic Title and received an Honourable Mention in the University English Book Prize (2020). Ongoing projects include editing Radclyffe Hall’s *The Well of Loneliness* for Oxford World’s Classics and leading the AHRC-funded 'Coercive Control: From Literature into Law' research network. She also co-edits *Narratives of Coercive Control* and is writing a second book on lesbian homemaking.
Teaching responsibilities include modules on queer studies, modernism, and twentieth-century literature. She convenes the MA in Queer Studies and holds a Postgraduate Certificate in Academic Practice with Advance HE.
