Gemma Moss is an Associate Professor of Modern & Contemporary Literature at Birmingham City University's College of Arts, Design and Media, where she has worked since 2016. She serves as Course Director for the BA English undergraduate program and teaches modules spanning modernist literature, gender studies, and environmental writing.
- PhD in Modernist Literature (University of Manchester, 2015)
- Research focuses on intersections of music, aesthetics, and politics in modernist texts.
- Currently editing E.M. Forster's Where Angels Fear to Tread for the Cambridge Edition of the Fiction of E.M. Forster.
Her research explores how modernist writers use music to challenge ideological limitations of language, with particular attention to James Joyce, Ezra Pound, and Sylvia Townsend Warner. Her 2021 monograph Modernism, Music and the Politics of Aesthetics (Edinburgh University Press) was shortlisted for the University English book prize.
Recent publications examine musicality in modernist novels, gendered critiques in Forster's work, and interplay between sound and narrative in war literature. She actively participates in academic events and industry collaborations to enhance student learning.

Gemma supervises undergraduate and postgraduate dissertations on topics including modernist novels, critical theory, and gender studies. She is also working on a new monograph titled Literature and Drugs, expanding her interdisciplinary research into contemporary contexts.
